Hey Grodech, thought to create a separate thread to discuss backgrounds and other minutiae

If you are dead set on the half-drow race, how would we know each other? through some sort of basis around Lolth worship?
I've not figured out much on my background yet, just thought to open the conversation now. I'm happy for it to be a case of 'business', in that we're both assigned to this, or we simply join forces as we are the most suited and booted for this adventure.

Also, I'm set on the name Inglorious Basterds for our duo haha.

Been looking into this too. I mean *technically* Lolth doesn't appear to be the Drow goddess in PF, but, ya know, I'm not gonna say we can't keep her.

Core Gods being those listed from PDG source. I guess this ultimately raises the question of are we sticking with greyhawk/faerunian lore? Or going balls deep into PF?

I was just thinking that the Inglorious Bastards was an adventuring/mercenary group that consisted of bastard children or other half breeds that spent their lives in misery, being ostracized and hated by society. They found belonging in the company of others like themselves. That way there's no ties to specific deities, religions or alignments. Now the group is fairly well known and members are not to be trifled with because everyone knows there are more of them.

They still wouldn't be able to do whatever they wanted though - lol. They would still be subject to local laws, etc.

We could be in town as part of a caravan guard, or escort for some merchant, or be on leave from the company for a few weeks for R&R after some battle someplace.

It could be that the Conclave have previously hired you to do things for them from time to time, and now I've joined you temporarily as a means to an end for a couple of years

Hard to tell. I'm thinking she was raised by her human mother up to a certain point then was forced into the streets/underground/into the woods out of necessity. She wouldn't necessarily have had any interactions with any real drow (if she had, she probably would have been forced into slavery).

She could have possibly stumbled onto the Conclave accidentally, or been caught trying to steal from them, etc, and struck up a friendship with Maxwell as a kindred spirit, both of them being the oddities that they are. Or Maxwell encountered some members of the Company in the area and thought maybe it was something he'd like to try for a while - possibly in search of knowledge from the wide variety of half-breeds in the Company.

This part sounds quite feasible, possibly you stole or have acquired something relating to my god that I am after, and we struck up a friendship over it + being the oddities that we are

The Conclave received word about the uncovered tomb through whatever means (scyring, information gathering network, etc), and have sent Maxwell to investigate. Not wanting him to be alone, they contracted with the Company for a guide/guard for Maxwell, preferably someone with underground experience. The Company, acting only on what information the Conclave provided, sent Nirili. She went to the Spire and has been traveling with Maxwell as his guard/guide, but has no idea where they are ultimately headed, only that she's there to help him. She just thinks he's some sort of scholar, mostly. Through their travels they've learned a little about each other, although he has yet to tell her of his mission.

I do need to clarify once more, that when play begins you (and the conclave) do not know about the tomb. I've already got pieces in place that rely on that. You can be working on something else for the conclave when events regarding the knowledge of the tomb unfold, that's fine. But the reveal (and those who have knowledge of it) are fixed in place.

Gotcha. Well his background indicates they sent him out to gain knowledge - "Currently on assignment to find relics, spells and knowledge pertaining to late elven magi Auriel Sunherald." - so she could have been hired as a guide/guard for that.
