Re: Fringe Guild Assignment: Detra
Thaddeus picks up the goldest coin from the offerings bowl.
"Heads we go left, tails we go right?"
He tosses the coin.
(I got tails)
"Right it is? I feel you ought to be the one to press the crystal." he says to Dunbar.
And when the dwarf goes to push the crystal, sleight of hand the coin inside my gambeson.

Ignore the bottom rolls, forgot to account for AC penalty and then forgot the armour was masterwork. The inline roll is the correct one.

Dunbar gets up from his seat and presses his hand to the right-hand crystal. He wasn't paying a lot of attention to the coin, so Thaddeus' trick is lost on him...

Duly noted on the coin, Thaddeus.
When you say right, you mean the door on the right of where you came in? or right of where Dunbar is sitting? (which would be the left of when you came in).
The doors have ringed handles, not crystals, on the inside of the room.

ooc - ooh, right - forgot. There didn't appear to be any magic on those doors, right? If so...
IC:
"Sorry, no crystals in here." Dunbar replies to Thaddeus. "Gotta open those the old fashioned way." He makes his way around to the door Thaddeus wanted open (right hand) and carefully reaches for the handle, grabs it and pulls.

Re: Fringe Guild Assignment: Detra
OOC: your detect magic has worn off by now.
As you pull the ringed handle, it takes a bit of effort but the door opens opens up into the same type of corridor as the other. Nothing seems amiss.
Dunbar, as you glance back to look at Thaddeus, you cast your eye over the sarcophagus room one more time to take in the details. As you do...please make me a Will saving throw.
As you both pass into the corridor, the bronze door closes behind you with a slight thud. Traversing through the corridor, the ceiling mouth appears - on que - and repeats the words the first one said, before disappearing back into the marble ceiling.
You approach the next marble door. This one does have has an onyx crystal embedded in the rear of it.

Re: Fringe Guild Assignment: Detra
You're fine.
Dunbar, as you cast your gaze over the room, you glance over at the ornate decorative gold on the sarcophagus lid. It looks alluring, and the shine from the light sources coming off of it is just right...
It's only for a second, but you mentally catch yourself staring at it. Like you noticed your mind had drifted slightly and suddenly snapped back to reality. You shake your head slightly and refocus your mind to the task at hand.
Thaddeus, in your mind it's almost like a kid in a candy store. You're almost cackling as you think of several ways to ingratiate yourself with the higher echelons of society with all of this gold, if only you could get it out. Even if you don't, the value of this discovery would certainly elevate your social standing, which would surely annoy Roderick. You absentmindedly thumb over the area where the gold coin you pocketed is located.

Re: Fringe Guild Assignment: Detra
Thaddeus definitely wants something that fancy. He's unsure how exactly he'd go about displaying it to really get the full value from it but he can worry about that later.
His mind wanders, wondering if he could melt it down to be recast into something that would blow Roderick's mind. It's almost a surprise to find them back outside the room listening to the mouth deliver its message again.
"Is that? Is that the same message?" He looks around, for a moment wondering if they went out the wrong door.
"Huh. Whoever built this place went to real effort to ensure this Karl guy never got forgotten."
He scratches at his chin.
"Didn't really pay off, did it."
He gestures to the crystal on the next door.
"Are we... doing a loop?"

Re: Fringe Guild Assignment: Detra
As the crystal lights up, the marble door opens (thankfully no massive chunks falling from it this time). For the third time since you entered this dungeon (first time was the centipede remains, second was the room with the explosion), a strong vile smell assaults your senses, and hands fly to noses and mouths to try and block it out.
The lit room beyond is the same hexagonal shape as the room with the explosion, and has the same features. Three opposing walls have various paintings on them, and there is a central feature (a pedestal) that is melted and very scorched.
There are four dessicated humanoid bodies strewn about, all dwarven, with various dried blood marks staining the floor and pillars. One has a sword shoved through its gut. Another seems to have its arm chopped off, with the arm nearby clinging onto a waraxe. One is lying against a nearby pillar, a hand grasped onto a warhammer. Dried blood stains the marble floor and pillars. One more body on the right is lying next to some sort of dark brown ceramic jar that is resting next to the nearby pillar on your right, another waraxe next to it.
It looks like some sort of combat happened here, although who was the aggressor is hard to say on initial glance.
The other things that stand out (quite literally) are the two undead humanoid creatures standing idly over some of the bodies. They utter guttural moans as they awaken and become animated at the smell of living flesh. Their pale grey bodies, looking reminiscent of dwarvekin, have taut skin across their skeleton exposing the details of bone and muscle beneath. Their sunken grey eyes staring at you as you stare back.
Like this:
These, gentlemen, are ghouls and they are now looking at the two new intruders who dare walk through their domain. As they move towards you, you ready your weapons.
Initative please, gentlemen. Combat map below:
Notes: solid black circles are pillars, black circle with white interior is the melted pedestal.
Apologies the hexagon is slightly askew, the map software I used was not ideal when trying to align hexagons.

"Well, friend Dunbar, I guess you finally get the opportunity to bear witness to my divine favour." says Thaddeus. He pulls his holy symbol free of his armour, the chain still around his neck and holds it high.
"By Waukeen's grace."
He says it calmly, not with the booming sonorous voice of a prophet, but there's still a certain resonance when he does so.
Thaddeus will move just enough to satisfy requirements (within 60ft of both creatures, no total cover, J7?) and rebuke undead (standard action, no AOO).

Re: Fringe Guild Assignment: Detra
So, clarifying those rolls.
If either creature has 8 HD or more they are immune.
I can rebuke a total of 16 HD worth of undead, starting with the closest. So basically if they have 7 HD or less they are both rebuked.
Rebuked creatures cower as though in awe of me. This is not the actual cowered condition though and the only mechanical benefit is that Dunbar and I get a +2 on any attacks against them (including spell attacks).
And just for clarification they don't take any actual damage.
This effect lasts ten rounds.
On the off chance they have two HD or less then I am now mentally controlling them. Worth mentioning that if they are the default ghouls then they have turn resistance and are treated as having 2 more HD than they actually do.

As you move to position, whip out your divine focus and utter "By Waukeen's Grace", both of the ghouls attention snap to you, as though they sense what you are.
Dunbar is next.

You'll have to 5 ft step to J8 to be in range for that spell (it's Close so 25ft+5ft/2 levels), unless you swap to G1.
