Enemies and Allies - NPC Collection

So your monster has a personality huh? Get them in here.
This is not for PCs. NPCs should be presented with full stats and suitable gear. They should be useable in game so include enough info about them that they could feasibly be dropped into a game, such as personality traits and adventure hooks. This is not for generic creatures with class levels, even if they're humanoid. A generic elven ranger designed to be used en masse would go better in the improved monsters collection.

B'hecki has an underdeveloped moral compass and can be found conducting somewhat questionable experiments. Her current efforts involve creating the ultimate weedkiller, leading her to poison the flora of an entire planet. She is somewhat gullible and easily misled if given the freedom to 'practice magic' as, much like her father, she rarely considers the consequences of her actions. As such she can often be found in the employ of evil organisations looking to weaponise her talents.

Ciella Ben'nath, second daughter of House Ben'nath is, unsurprisingly, a cleric of Lolth. Fiercely loyal to her Matron mother, Ciella boldly carries her House's interests onto the surface. Whenever House Ben'nath need something doing on the surface, you can almost certainly find Ciella in charge. She is devout in her faith in Lolth, who she serves unquestioningly, and sees all males as completely expendable to achieve her goals. Although she will bark orders at males under her command, she secretly despises them for their weakness and impurity. She harbours a strong suspicion of anyone not Drow and a specific hatred for those of mixed Elven blood who she considers beneath even the Sun Elves. That said, she is a commanding presence and she gets results, ever standing high in her Matron Mother's favour for her competence. Ciella can appear anywhere you need a leader for a band of Drow on the surface.

His calm demeanour makes him a popular figure in any town he passes through and he is free with his healing, his assistance and a sympathetic ear. He's no stranger to fighting for a good cause and is always keen to protect smaller settlements from trouble. He is usually found in the company of the Paladin, Savannah Bluerose, both of which have served Pelor together for years. Haldur avoids church politics, believing simply in doing what feels right. He would argue that in many cases, believing you're doing the right thing means you are doing the right thing. Haldur was last seen smuggling the young Prince and Princess out of the fallen city of Se'traal after it was conquered by an enemy warlord.

Kethmir Stonefist tends to keep away from civilisation. He is a dwarf who seeks nothing more than peace and perfection. Perfection in his body and his movements. To that end, he travels alone, exploring the world. When he does meet people, he's eager to share his philosophy of peace and neutrality, harmony with one's own mind and body, operating as one synchronised unit. He is happy to tutor others in the arts of self-defence, in which he is well versed and is not above showcasing his talents to earn a few coin should he have need. It can be difficult to persuade Kethmir to join a specific cause, as in his eyes, good and evil are fairly fluid concepts and he believes a man can only be loyal to his own beliefs. To him, self integrity and a strong personal ideology are more important than debates over what is the greater good or which is the worse of two bad options.

Lionel Eskelion is the King's Spymaster. He is a somewhat aloof gnomish man who is well spoken and polite, if somewhat clinical in his demeanour. He admires competence in others and values little else. He is happy to recruit people to achieve his own goals though their performance is all they will be judged upon. The morality doesn't bother him too much if the ends serve the crown. He is a spy through and through and is not above spying on those he purports to trust, using his Cloud Mind ability to hide in plain sight, or leave his Psicrystal, Tobias, to spy in his stead. Lionel understands that knowledge is power and the more he knows, the better. Should he wish to recruit the players, Lionel will certainly do his research beforehand. He can be useful if befriended, as his Object Reading power can reveal valuable information about the previous owners of items. He is also a font of information about the local Nobility, fi you can persuade him to part with those secrets...

Savannah Bluerose

Six feet two is an imposing height for a man, so imagine then the faces of people who see Savannah Bluerose towering over them at that height. Her posture speaks of good breeding even before she opens her mouth and speaks in a calm and well mannered tone. Her blonde hair has a shock of sapphire blue running through it, a genetic trait of the Bluerose family. Her armour with its Bluerose emblem makes it clear, if it wasn't already, that she is a paladin. She can often be found in the company of Haldur Brightmace, a cleric of Pelor and her traveling companion. Savannah considers it her greatest purpose in life to serve the people and determines to do so without the financial backing of her father, Lord Stanley Bluerose, owner of the Bluerose Bank. While technically entitled to the address of Lady Savannah Bluerose, she rarely uses the honorific. Savannah is a keen reader and is often willing to trade one of her read tomes for another. She's interested in a wide range of subjects and is also a keen chess player, having some modicum of skill at the game.

The Thunder is a wrestler, gladiator and general combatant in the Arena. He lives purely to prove he's the best, the strongest, the most spectacular fighter ever. He's not very talkative, or even particularly friendly and he probably can't be trusted at all, but if you can play up to his ego, perhaps you can get him on your side?
The Thunder is best used in an urban environment where he could serve as an entry point into a gladiatorial arena or similar. He also moonlights as a bouncer and bodyguard and could be found in those roles where he could serve as a friend or a foil depending on the players' intentions.

Snow is a szarkai, an albino drow, used as an infiltrator by House Ben'nath. Her pale skin leaves her something of an outsider among her own kind, though her usefulness to the Matron Mother accords her some status, begrudging as it might be. Snow can usually be found on the surface, posing as an Elf, often a bodyguard, while actually spying for House Ben'nath. She speaks with a detached vaguely Slavic accent and is very matter of fact. She is pragmatic and is not above using dirty tricks to get her way, once using a small child as a human shield, much to the chagrin of a certain adventuring party. She was arrested by them and delivered into safekeeping but was broken free by Ciella Ben'nath, second daughter of House Ben'nath, who personally led the rescue squad to recover this valuable asset.

Rasputin is the world's smartest horse, or so he claims. The fact that he is even able to claim so goes some way to proving it. Of course, no one is ever gonna believe you, Rasputin reminds you, as he crushes your mind with his psionic prowess.
Rasputin isn't really concerned with human morality. He's mostly interested in keeping his secret, while he works to secure his next meal, or a cheeky pint. It's surprisingly easy to manipulate humans into giving him beer, Rasputin has found, and when he gets drunk enough he can be heard singing in raucous dwarven as he staggers around the field.
Honestly though, once a beast of burden, always a beast of burden and it's only a matter of time until someone discovers his secret and puts him to work.


CR: 7
Although technically ECL 9, having no gear (or hands) I feel his CR should be lower, so I've tentatively pegged him at 7 pending further testing. I do like the idea of him having enchanted horseshoes though.

Winter is a szarkai, an albino drow, used as a spy by House Ben'nath and is the twin sister of Snow Winterborn. As a side note, her name is translated from the original Elven which makes distinctions between two different types of Winter; the harsh winter with driving blizzards and so on, and the peaceful winter with cool air and fresh snow. Her first name is the latter, the surname the former.
Where Snow is an infiltrator, Winter is more upfront, relying on her diplomacy to stride boldly into a position of power, posing as an Elf while feeding information back to House Ben'nath and following her Matron Mother's instructions. She is just as aloof as her sister, but manages to win people over with her diplomacy skills which rely on her keen mind and observances of social interactions between other people, allowing her to quickly see what people think of each other and how that can be manipulated.

Xargarron Bleakridge is a Duergar crime boss. A fugitive from the Duergar stronghold of Griefstryke, Xargarron is blind in one eye and walks with a limp, assisted by a cane held in his left hand. His body is riddled with scars, most of which are hidden by or incorporated into the design of elaborate fractal tattoos set with a ghostly white ink derived from an Underdark fungus. Xargarron keeps his past a dark secret, unknown to any, even his most loyal followers. He uses his innate psionic powers to draw faithful thralls to his side, a pale mimicry of the illithid way of life, that in some ways makes him more cult leader than crime boss proper. Still, that Duergar drive to acquire power burns within him and what he lacks in physical prowess, he makes up for in mental abilities, financial acquisitions, criminal connections and favours owed. He relies on his thralls for physical protection, though few who deal with him are ever allowed a face to face parlay. Xargarron's telepathic links to his thralls allow him to conduct most meetings via proxy. Xargarron lives his life in the shadows and many who owe him a debt know him only by his sigil: an eye crossed through with a large blue X. They fear the day they see that sigil again, calling in some long-dreaded favour.

Note:
Xargarron has 8 level 1 thralls under his control. Use standard NPC stats for these. He has 2 fighters, 2 psychic warriors, 2 rogues, 1 wizard and 1 sorcerer.
Due to his poor combat stats, Xargarron will rely on his psionic powers, most of which require no attack roll. His lightning gauntlets also allow him to deal damage without rolling. He has access to sanctuary, and the ability to transfer his wounds to his thralls to heal. His dragon draught gives him a big AOE attack with no roll required and his Dimension Stride Boots let him teleport up to 60ft away for a quick getaway, using his Hat of Disguise to change his appearance. In most combat scenarios, Xargarron is not keen to fight, and will rely on his thralls to engage the enemy while he escapes.
