hackers!

Post by Grodech »

Hmm - seems like someone was trying to log in with my username. Told me my attempts had been exceeded and I had to log in with captcha today...

Unfortunately, by default, the forum does not keep of a log of failed or successful logins, so there's no way for me to look into this any further.
Obviously I recommend a password change to something 16 digit alphanumeric with at least one capital and at least one symbol, just for safety.

I'd also recommend probably learning how to use Discord (it's not difficult, my mum is 65 and I chat to her on it all the time, it's like whatsapp). That at least gives you a second point of contact should you need me to reset anything. It might seem simple to make a second forum account to request a reset but how would I know it's you?! XD

In the mean time, let's hope it's a one off. Given that there's little to really gain from hacking your account perhaps it was just someone trying an old compromised password? Let me know if you get any further warnings.

I got a Facebook request a few weeks ago from someone who's username was Grodech. I mean, I've been using that name online for like 20+ year. Who TF is this dude? Anyway, deleted the request, but now this.... Clearly they didn't get in, but I will change my password.

The longer you've been online the more of this shit you see.
I still get a lot of emails from people claiming to know my password, but it's an out of date one from 20 years ago that obviously got leaked somewhere. XD It's usually just all automated crap. People buy lists of breached passwords and a bot tries to login to them all using the listed password and any common repeaters. Anyways, nothing to really worry about if they didn't get in. A solid 16 digit alphanumeric password will prevent any brute forcing for the time being.
